Our History: A Legacy of Comfort and Trust
McDowell & Son was founded in Hood River in 1996 by Terry McDowell and his father, Craig McDowell. Craig had owned and operated his own HVAC company in Seattle, and together they built McDowell & Son on the core principles of a family business and strong ethics, values that continue to drive us today.
HVAC isn’t just a service we provide; it’s part of our family legacy, woven into the fabric of our daily lives for two generations. Craig McDowell worked in the HVAC industry for more than 30 years, and his passion for quality service and technical know-how shaped the way we work. From a young age, Terry was by his father’s side, learning the trade and absorbing the ethos of hard work and integrity that defined their shared profession.
Craig has since passed away, but the trade and values he passed down remain at the heart of McDowell & Son. Terry carries those lessons forward, blending traditional values with modern equipment to meet the evolving needs of Hood River homes and businesses. Our mission has always been clear: to provide reliable repair, installation and maintenance services that homeowners, local builders and light commercial customers can count on. Since 1996, we’ve come to know the nuances of the Columbia Gorge climate, from chilly winters to summer heat. We install and service a variety of heating and cooling equipment, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless systems. We’re an American Standard Customer Care Dealer and a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor.
We install and maintain heating and cooling systems in Hood River, The Dalles, Cascade Locks, Mosier and Parkdale in Oregon, and in White Salmon, Bingen and Lyle in Washington.
